Now that spring has officially arrived, the weather is finally starting to improve. Today is supposed to be especially nice, so I thought I’d put together a list of some of the best outdoor activities for the season!
I’ve mentioned it before, and I’ll say it again… Dayton has some of the best trails around! Check out any of the Dayton MetroParks, those in the Centerville-Washington Park District, the state parks, any number of others. For more information, see my Dayton Hiking Guide!
For all you with a green thumb (or those of us who wish we had one), visit one of several local public gardens to get some inspiration for your own (or just soak up their beauty). Whether you go to the Cox Arboretum, the Wegerzyn Gardens, or Smith Gardens, you can’t go wrong!
If you like to get a little more speed, head out to one of several bike paths in the area. Try the Great Miami Trail, the Iron Horse Trail, or the Creekside Trail! If you prefer a non-paved path, try one of the MetroPark’s Mountain Biking Areas!
Take the little ones to Carillon Park, a 65-acre open-air museum, or the historical farm at Carriage Hill. Either way, there’s lots to see, touch, and learn, and plenty of room for them to run and burn energy (great for adults too!).
If you want to see how a dairy farm operates today, go to Young’s Dairy near Yellow Springs. In addition to have amazing ice cream, the offer a whole host of outdoor activities! Stop by the petting zoo (where you may see the cows getting milked if you come in at the right time), there are 2 putt-putt courses, driving range, batting cages, and more! They also run a full service restaurant at the Golden Jersey Inn.
Did we miss anything?
With so many fun outdoor activities around Dayton, I may have missed something. What is your favorite to enjoy the great outdoors? If you have a local activity you’d like for us to include, be sure to leave it in the comments below or visit our contact page to tell us about it!
