Happy Friday, Dayton! While it still feels very much winter, I am super excited about how much more light we’re getting! (PS: Daylight Savings starts in T-minus 3 weeks, and I’m definitely counting!) As the days continue getting longer that will mean more time to enjoy our local events! Here’s a list of what’s going on around the Gem City this weekend:

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “The King and I”
Get tickets for tonight’s performance or choose from one of the other performance times this weekend. This Broadway classic is currently running at the Schuster Center downtown. While you’re there stop at one of the many great local eateries for a meal before or after your show.
Two worlds collide in this “breathtaking and exquisite” (The New York Times) musical, based on the 2015 Tony Award-winning Lincoln Center Theater production. One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, THE KING AND I boasts a score that features such beloved classics as “Getting to Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” Set in 1860s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. THE KING AND I is “too beautiful to miss” (New York Magazine).

The Day Lincoln Spoke in Dayton
Please join us for this special enactment of Abraham Lincoln by
Jim Crabtree in full period dress, depicting Lincoln in 1859. After he
delivered the speech against the expansion of slavery at the old courthouse in Dayton, the name of Lincoln was first publicly mentioned for the Presidency of the United States, and the speech was recognized as the opening salvo in what eventually became a nationwide struggle over slavery. This FREE event will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 pm at the Wright Memorial Library in Oakwood. It is hosted by the Wright Library and the Oakwood Historical Society.
