The weekend is almost upon us! I don’t know about you but these winter weeks seem so long. As much as I love the snow and the idea of winter, I’m feeling ready for some extra sunshine and little more warmth! How are you fairing this winter? Well, if you’re looking to get your mind off the winter blues, check out one of these weekend events:

Jurassic Quest
Stop by the Dayton Convention Center this weekend and bring the little ones to hang out with the dinosaurs! This event features more rides, activities, and dinosaurs than ever before! There will be over 80 dinosaurs, including a life-size Spinosaurus, Apatosaurus, Triceratops, Giganotosaurus, Pinochiorex, Dracorex, Ouranosaurus, & many more! There’s lots to do with rides, activities, and learning. The event runs Friday from 3 to 8 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 8 pm. Most tickets cost $22 ($2 military discount).

Mimosa Brunch
Come to the Gem City Catfé on Saturday, February 9th from 8 am to 2 pm as they serve up “Breakfast with cats!” Son of a Biscuit will have their truck out back! Drop in any time for breakfast and drinks! Start your day with a delicious breakfast and add some coffee or cocktails with it! The cat lounge will operate as usual – reservations are recommended if you want to visit the cat lounge! You can bring your drinks and small snacks into the cat lounge. They ask for larger food items to be finished before entering so their cats don’t eat your entire breakfast!

Make it Personal: Develop Your Home Practice
So you’ve been kicking ass in class, but do you think about taking it to another level and what it might be like to have a home practice?
It can seem overwhelming when you guide yourself through practice, but simplify it together. Come to Speakeasy Yoga on Saturday from noon to 3 pm. This 2 part workshop will lend you some tools to take home and try for yourself. The first half is an extended class with some lecture on why a home practice is important, followed by how to practice by yourself. The second half of the afternoon will be all about practice! This is where you get to fully dive into your personal needs and goals with your home practice, and how to adjust it every day.

Let’s eat cake and make valentines all day
Justin Emanuel Mohler is opening his own bakery, Salt Block Biscuit Company, in the District Provisions building (with the likes of Crafted & Cured, Glasz Bleu Oven, and Grist Provisions). And they’re giving you a sneak preview!
Join them Saturday at BRIM from 11 am to 8 pm for samples and our Make Your Own Valentine (featuring sweet little Guinness’s face). Cake and cards are free but we will be accepting donations for Guinness’s furry friends at SICSA Pet Adoption Center.

Photography Workshop: Dayton Creative Co.
Have you ever wondered how people curate those lovely, Instagram-worthy blog and branding photos? If so, this workshop is for you! Come to Crafted & Cured Sunday from 3 to 6 pm for the event, hosted by Samara from the Gem City Mama! You’ll learn how to improve your photography skills, gain modeling confidence, perfect the ultimate flatlay, and create an aesthetically pleasing Instagram feed for your blog, brand, or business.
Tickets include a VIP spot at the workshop and a Q&A session with Samara, as well as Amy Tackett from Honeyteller and Kelsey Waddell from Mama In Overalls. As an added bonus, Kelsey will also be taking two professional headshots for each attendee!
Whether you’re an experienced photographer looking for new models or a novice blogger wanting to improve their skills, this workshop will be the perfect opportunity to learn, network, and grow!

Picture It: Wright Dunbar District
Come out to Third Perk Coffeehouse & Wine Bar Sunday from 3 to 7 pm. Celebrate the rich culture of our Wright Dunbar District. Support local artist and entrepreneurs as we look back and forward to our historical Wright Dunbar neighborhood through photography and original paintings.
