Happy New Year! To be honest, the new year kind of sneaked up on me, but ready or not here it is! Do you make resolutions? What changes are you making this year? Whether you’re looking to make improvements or ready to just keep on keeping on, here are some events going on around the Gem City this weekend:
Behind the Scenes Tour
Whether you’re a regular visitor or have never been, stop by the Air Force Museum’s Space STEM Learning Node this Friday between 1 and 3 pm for a sneak peek! Take the opportunity to engage with program volunteers on elements of the restoration process highlighted through a variety of materials and visuals. This program takes place every first and third Friday of the month and is open to all visitors.

First Friday
Front Street Building Co. invites you to enjoy the work of over 100 Artists and Artisans. Their complex is made of FOUR buildings where you will find a combination of painters, printmakers, jewelry artists, sculptors, glass artists, mixed media artists, potters, etc. This event runs the first Friday of every month from 5 to 9 pm.
Casablanca
See this classic film on the big screen! At the Plaza Theatre in Miamisburg, there are showings on Friday (5:20 pm), Saturday (5:20 pm), and Sunday (1 pm). All tickets are just $5. If you’ve never seen this movie, I recommend it!

Coffee 101
If you love drinking coffee but want to learn more about the craft, join Barista, Shelby for Coffee 101 at Gem City Catfé. This class taught for beginners from the ground up in an approachable setting. The class starts at 6 pm on Friday with tickets costing $5 (reservations required).
They’ll be covering Coffee Basics, such as: growing, processing, and roasting. Then they’ll move on to an instructional brewing demonstration with a few different methods such as the v60, Chemex, French Press and Aeropress.

Dayton Wedding Event & Expo
Planning for a big day this year? You’ll want to stop by Dayton’s largest two-day wedding event! Head over to the Wright State Nutter Center Saturday or Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. The event includes mini seminars, dance demos, fashion shows and more. There’ll be a grand prize giveaway plus door prizes. Tickets are required and cost $8.

Savasana on Sunday
Join the crowd at Lulu Lemon (The Greene) on Sunday morning at 11 am for a complimentary, in-store yoga class led by Angela Yim of Kai Yoga Studio! The class will be open level and a few mats will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.

Draw From The Collection
Interested in trying your hand at drawing? Or maybe you’re a lifelong sketcher? On Sunday at 3 pm, come to the Dayton Art Institute to experience the galleries in a new way by drawing the collection! Every session includes an hour-long drawing activity in the gallery with the guidance of a museum instructor. Each session features one gallery and has a different element of art theme (line, color, balance, contrast, etc.). All materials are provided and all abilities are welcome. Please note: this program is for ages 12 and up. Tickets are $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
